Mount Wise Dental Practice

Meet the team

Malcolm PrideauxMalcolm Prideaux BDS DPDS

Malcolm founded the practice in 1985 with his wife, Bridget. Although most of his time is spent at Mount Wise, he spends part of his week in a rural private practice, as well as working in the Orthodontic Department of Derriford Hospital as a Clinical Assistant.

Malcolm’s interest in Orthodontics means that we are able to offer this type of treatment to some of our patients.

Since 1993 Malcolm has been a Vocational Trainer, meaning that he supervises recently-graduated dentists during their postgraduate year. He links part of this training with the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery at Derriford Hospital.

In November 2007 Malcolm visited a village in Malawi where he helped to install a dental surgery with help from the charity ‘Dentaid’.  To learn more about this trip, please visit the Medic Malawi website.

Malcolm is involved in Dental politics, representing his local colleagues on the Local Dental Committee, and regularly attending their national conference. He also has strong links with Plymouth PCT and has been on many advisory committees, helping to plan dental care for the Plymouth area.

Away from Dentistry, Malcolm is a qualified Basketball referee, and supports both Plymouth Marjon Cannons and Plymouth Raiders teams.

Bridget AshtonBridget Ashton  BDS DPDS PGCME

Since opening the practice with Malcolm in 1985 Bridget has combined working part-time with bringing up their three sons.

Bridget works at the practice part time, and is our ‘domicilliary’ dentist, meaning that she can visit patients who are unable to get to the practice. She is not able to carry out the full range of treatment that is available at the practice, but can often help to make a patients mouth more comfortable whilst they are house-bound.

Since 2001 Bridget has been running the Plymouth Dental Vocational Training scheme, and does some teaching at the Peninsula Dental School. In 2007 she gained her Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education.

Bridget is currently the treasurer of the Plymouth section of the British Dental Association, and was its first female chairman in 1996-97.

Away from Dentistry Bridget keeps four chickens and loves cooking. Each August she takes part in a young people’s camp, where she leads a team catering for up to 100 people for a week, which she says is great fun!!

In August Andrew will continue his postgraduate training by taking up a post at Derriford Hospital. Patients who are referred to Derriford from Mount Wise may well meet up with him there!

In his spare time Andrew takes a serious interest in the progress of the Welsh rugby team, and can often be heard humming their anthem in his surgery……
