The Team at Mount Wise Dental Practice

Malcolm Prideaux BDS DPDS
Malcolm founded the practice in 1985 with his wife, Bridget. Although most of his time is spent at Mount wise he is a clinical supervisor at the new Peninsula Dental School and has a clinical assistant attachment at Derriford Hospital in orthodontics.
Malcolm’s interest in Orthodontics means we are able to offer this type of treatment to some of our patients.
Since 1993 Malcolm has been a Vocational Trainer, meaning that he supervises recently graduated dentists during their postgraduate year. He links part of his training with the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery at Derriford Hospital.
In November 2007 Malcolm visited a village in Malawi where he installed a dental surgery with the help of the charity Dentaid. You can learn more about his trip and see a slide show here. Please visit the Medic Malawi website for more information about the charity.
Malcolm is involved in Dental Politics, representing his local colleagues on the Local Dental Committee and he regularly attends their national conference. He also has strong links with the PCT and has been on many advisory committees helping to plan dental care for the Plymouth area. Nationally, Malcolm is currently an elected member of the BDA Rep Body.
Away from Dentistry Malcolm is a fan of Basketball and supports both Marjon Youth Development teams and sponsors the BBL Plymouth Raiders.

Bridget Ashton BDS DPDS PGCME
Since opening the practice with Malcolm in 1985 Bridget has combined working part-time with bringing up their three sons.
Bridget works at the practice part time and is our domiciliary dentist meaning that she can visit patients who are unable to get into practice, but can often help to make a patients mouth more comfortable whilst they are house bound.
Since 2001 Bridget has been running the Plymouth Dental Vocational Training scheme, and does some teaching at the Peninsula Dental School. In 2007 she gained her postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education.
Bridget is currently the treasurer of the Plymouth section of the British Dental Association and was its first female chairman in 1996-97.
Away from Dentistry Bridget keeps three chickens and loves cooking. In 2010 she hopes to return to Malawi, where she and Malcolm will carry out some voluntary dental work.
Benjamin Mansell BDS (Hons)
Ben graduated with honours from Cardiff Dental Hospital, and was awarded a prize for sporting achievement and contribution to sport.
Ben is currently undertaking a clinical audit at Mount Wise, focused on decay risk assessment. He enjoys working closely with the Oral Health Educators and is motivated at improving preventative measures.
In August Ben will continue his postgraduate training by taking up a post at Derriford Hospital. He has a keen interest in oral surgery and is looking forward to working with oral and maxillofacial consultants.
Ben Continues with his sporting interests in Devon and often drives his banana coloured car up and down the spectacular Devon coastlines with his surfboard and kayak to hand.

David Woods BDS
David graduated from Manchester University in July 2009 and enjoys all aspects of his work. His particular area of interest is cosmetic work which he plans to study at postgraduate level in the future.
Away from dentistry David enjoys playing and watching most sports, being a dedicated Stoke City fan “Come on you Reds!”
Mrs Candice Lawrence RND OHE Senior Nurse
Candice has been nursing for fifteen years and has been here at Mount Wise for 9 years and is a qualified Oral Health Educator. She assists with the training of Student Nurses and is quick to remind them that life is not ALL work. Candice has recently gained a competency in applying topical fluoride varnish.
Candice regularly graces many popular Ski slopes and thanks to her ski-ing expertise, she has yet to return with a limb in plaster. She is always planning her next fun filled adventure.
Lindsey Bright RDN OHE
Lindsey is a qualified Dental Nurse and our interior design queen! She enjoys picking up a paintbrush and adding a splash of colour thankfully only applying fluoride varnish with a brush to our patients’. Her latest accomplishment was to painstakingly restore the beautiful marble fire place in the waiting room.
Lindsey assists with caring for our domiciliary patients, and in Nov 2009 gained her Oral Health Education Certificate.
Claire Gillbard RDN OHE
Claire is a qualified Dental Nurse and is a real wiz with our stock control. Like Lindsey she assists with caring for our domiciliary patients and has also gained her competency certificate in applying fluoride varnish and in Nov 2009 gained her Oral Health Education Certificate.
Claire is busy arranging her wedding so let’s hope its all plain sailing for her and whilst not using her excellent organizing skills she can be often heard cheering on her brother who plays for one of the Local National basket ball teams.
Becky Smith – Wightman RDN
Becky is our newly qualified Dental Nurse passing her exams in May 2009 with distinction.
Becky is our first –aider, and loves to practice her skills given half a chance. She is hoping to follow in the footsteps of the team to gain her Oral Health Education qualification.
Like Claire she is also planning her wedding with military strategy using her many reliable skills.
Marie Cassidy RDN Practice Manager
Marie joined the Practice in October 2008 and is the most recent member of the team. Before working here she has gained her experience in both orthodontic and general practice and looks forward to the challenges of a training practice.
Marie takes care of the day to day management of the Practice; she is responsible for making sure we keep up to date with changes in various regulations affecting the Practice. Her most recent accomplishment is to be appointed as a BDA Good Practice Consultant and whilst not working enjoys renovating her cottage garden and looking after her chickens and quails.
